Steven Gerrard has spoken in glowing terms
Former Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard has spoken in glowing terms about his former rival, Tim Cahill, who is currently playing with Shanghai Greenland Shenhua in the Chinese super league.
Cahill is best known for his time with Premier league outfit Everton. Back then, he came up on numerous times against Liverpool legend Gerrard, who is widely regarded as one of the complete midfielders in the last few decades. Both players have since left their respective clubs in search of new pastures. Gerrard is playing in the MLS with LA Galaxy while Cahill is in China.
Since both are coming to the end of their glorious careers, Gerrard has taken time to look back at his favourite opponents over the years. He says that Cahill was one of the toughest he had come up in his career since the Australian had an incredible will to win. Gerrard also praised the physical attributes of Cahill, which helped him settle quickly in the Premier League. The English Premier league is seen as one of the most difficult leagues in the world for any foreign player, but Cahill remained as one of the finest foreign imports as long as he played for the club.
The presence of Cahill has helped Liverpool attract a young Australian, Brad Smith, who has been receiving rave reviews.“He was a very tough opponent, someone I used to relish playing against.Tim’s a winner — very physical. We’ve had many battles and I’ve got big respect for him as player for Australia and through his domestic career as well. You have to take your hat off to players like that who have performed on the big stage for such a long time,” said Gerrard about Cahill. “I think he’s certainly one for the future, for the Australian national team,” said the former Liverpool captain about Smith.
