CAHILL WANTS LOAN MOVE
New York Red Bulls midfielder Tim Cahill has said that he is willing to go out on a loan deal during the off-season in order to keep himself fit for the upcoming World Cup.
Australia recently became the first team this region to seal a place at the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil. Former Everton midfielder Cahill is expected to be one of the important members for the Australian team at this competition. This could be the last World Cup for the 33-year-old, who is likely to step down from the team after the end. As a result, he wants to make sure that he is present in the squad that will be named by manager Holger Osieck.
It is not new for players in the MLS to go out on a loan deal during the off-season. This is the time when Europe has the transfer window open and clubs like Everton have had a lot of success by bringing players from the MLS in the past. Landon Donovan is one of the greatest MLS loan deal success stories in the last few years, and Cahill is open to the possibility of going down that route. Even though his MLS club may not be too happy with the decision, he will find no shortage of takers.
"My first option would be to go on loan to the Premier League or somewhere in Europe. If not, then I'll stay at the Red Bulls and have a tough training regime going into the World Cup. Footballers need to play. That's what I did before I came into the Socceroos World Cup qualifying campaign and I think when you're playing and keeping fit you're keeping that momentum there. It's the best thing for any player," said the former Everton midfielder who is one of the designated players in the squad.
