RYAN BENCHED FOR OSASUNA GAME
Australia goalkeeper Mat Ryan was left on the substitutes’ bench for the whole game as Real Sociedad returned to winning ways by beating Osasuna 1-0 at home in the Spanish La Liga. The Australia national team star is the second choice goalkeeper at Real Sociedad behind first choice Alex Remiro and he has spent the majority of the Spanish La Liga season on the bench as a result with Remiro a regular feature in the Real Sociedad goal. Australia shot stopper Ryan has played nine times for Real Sociedad in all competitions this season. Three appearances each in La Liga, Copa Del Rey and the Europa League.
Real Sociedad came into the home encounter with Osasuna in the league with a two-game losing run in all competitions. After playing out an impressive 2-2 draw with hosts RB Leipzig from the German Bundesliga in the first leg of their Europa League play-off clash, Real Sociedad were on the end of a 4-0 thrashing at the hands of Basque rivals Atheltic Bilbao who were the home team. The losing run then increased to two games with the 3-1 home loss to RB Leipzig in the second leg as far as the Europa League play-off stage is concerned.
Spanish defender AritzElustondo was the matchwinner for Real Sociedad as they beat Osasuna by a lone goal. Spanish central defender Elustondo found the back of the net seven minutes into the second half and his goal was enough to secure all three points.
In the Spanish La Liga, the goal from Elustondo ensured that Real Sociedad have now won two of the last three league games. Real Sociedad are still in the hunt to qualify for next season's Champions League campaign.
The win over Osasuna pushed Real Sociedad to 41 points and they are four points adrift of Barcelona in fourth spot.
